An anecdote that was kindly sent by a viewer-

I was the assistant publicist on "Night of the
Generals" in 1966 - just a kid but having a great
experience. Francis Winikus was the main publicist.
We spent six weeks shooting in Warsaw (in February!)
and living at the Hotel Europeski. It was very barren
there, snow on the ground, hardly any traffic and
swastika flags flying for the purposes of our movie.
I think we were the first American or outside film to
shoot there since the war. There was nothing to do
and we all got to know each other quite well - John
spent most of the time reading his way through "Lord
of the Rings" (which at that point none of us had
heard of!). We all presumed that we were being
bugged - we used to say that the leaves of the rubber
tree plants in the lobby leaned towards us when we
talked!

After Warsaw came two or three months shooting in the
studios in Paris and that was much more fun.
