A lovely anecdote that was kindly sent by a viewer-

In the early 70's I was an working on the last leg of a touring production of DIAL M FOR MURDER. As well as John Gregson, the cast included Joan Fontaine and Julian Glover. John played the role of the Inspector. I walked on as a Policeman in the final scene.

Miss Fontaine was in the habit of summoning the cast to her dressing room for soup between the matinee evening shows. We all dutifully turned up for fear of offending her. I've no idea how well the leading actors got on, they were obviously on another stratosphere from us but I have vivid memories of John waiting to make his first
entrance. He would hunch his shoulder like Quasimodo and put an idiot leer on his face; only straightening up at the very last moment as the door was opened. Sometimes I was afraid he'd leave it too late and Ms Fontaine would catch him in the act.

When the tour ended I was amused to read in the papers that Joan Fontaine sued the production company who mounted it. Amongst the causes cited was the fact that she was "forced" to feed the cast between the shows.
